Presentation
John Putnam was the speaker for our May meeting which also featured club member’s “Great Eight” photographs.
John is an editorial, outdoor, and documentary photographer who also teaches photography workshops here on MDI. Since 2005, his work has been published in dozens of photography and design books and his photographs have been featured by major online editorials such as Wired, The Guardian and National Geographic.
His image collection spans five continents and for the past three years he has been shortlisted in multiple categories by the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition, held annually by the Natural History Museum in London. To see the full list of John’s exhibitions, publications, honors, and awards, and of course, his amazing photography, visit his web site jkputnamphotography.com
While John’s accomplishments are impressive, we really like this one: He recently instructed an iPad photography workshop for the Tremont Arts Week. He taught 5th through 8th grade students the basics of the iPad camera as well as compositional techniques. The kids then used what they learned from him to document the other Arts Week programs and created an exhibit of images showcasing the program from beginning to end. Pretty cool.
