Presentation
LeeAnne Mallonee presented Water, Leaf, & Rock; experimental and abstract photography, with a dash of landscape.
LeeAnne Mallonee is a transplanted Kansan with degrees in music therapy and special education from the University of Kansas. She studied drawing, painting, and printmaking at the University of Maine and elsewhere before specializing in calligraphy and graphic design commercially. She operated Ink Stone Studio, a free-lance design and letter arts studio in Bangor, Maine, before focusing her attention on fine arts and photography more intensively with studies at Maine Media Workshops and elsewhere. She photographs throughout Maine, as well as New York and Santa Fe, and anywhere else she travels. Encaustic painting, collage, and fiber arts are recent passions as well. She’s also a singer and choral musician, which informs her images in a subliminal but significant way.
Color / Movement / Shadow / Language / Light – these define my personal work in photography and my encaustic painting and fiber work. Though I started with traditional cameras in the ‘90s, digital photography offers an explosion of possibilities for the kind of spontaneous art-making I love. Experiments with pinhole and various digital cameras beginning in 2006 taught me to focus on form, color, and movement, rather than reproducing a view realistically. My work reflects my love of the abstract and of spontaneous, painterly images.
