Assignment

Our assignment for the October meeting, should you choose to accept it, is The Iconic Tree

The objective is capture the beauty and significance of an iconic tree.  You can pick any tree that’s caught your eye, or, if you live near Acadia National Park, you might be inspired to make a compelling image of the icon (dead) tree on Ocean Drive (see below for GPS coordinates & directions.

Whatever tree you choose for this assignment, stretch yourself to make multiple images of the same tree.

  • Visit the tree at different times of the day to understand the lighting conditions.
  • Consider the best angles and compositions to highlight the tree’s features.
  • Use a wide-angle lens to capture the entire tree and its surroundings. Or go in close to explore textures and lines.
  • Experiment with different perspectives: shoot from the base looking up, or from a distance to include the landscape.
  • Play with post-processing. Adjust brightness, contrast, and saturation to bring out the tree’s features.
  • Consider converting some images to black and white to emphasize texture and form.

Take a look at the Summer Assignment gallery for inspiration.  https://mdiphotoclub.org/2024/09/meeting-tue-9-10-630pm/
