Assignment

The assignment for the November meeting is to Explore Black & White vs. Color

Objective: Capture the same scene in both black & white and color to compare and understand how each medium affects the visual storytelling and emotional impact of the image.

Pick a location or subject with strong visual elements such as texture, light and shadow. Ensure the scene has a mix of colors, contrasts and depths. Take multiple shots of the same scene, trying different compositions, angles and perspectives.

Process your images both in color and black & white. Consider how different hue and saturation levels impact the mood and focus of your color photos.  Adjust contrast, shadows and highlights to bring out the texture in your black & white photos.

Submit your 3 best image pairs for the assignment & we’ll look at them color and b&w side by side.  What do we notice more in b&w than color — and vice-versa?  How does the presence or absence of color convey the mood, focus, or details of the image?

1.  You can submit both the black and white and color photo(3 pairs are allowed) and Dorothea will put them together for you, for presentation in comparison

or

2.  If its very easy for you to do yourself, then you can submit three pairs WHERE EACH PAIR  is in one photo, having done the job yourself.
