Our December outing was held Saturday December 6th at 10am at St. Saviour’s Episcopal Church in Bar Harbor.
A brief tour was provided by Lee Garrett, a senior docent church member who highlighted the history of the Church complex including the ten stained glass windows created by Louis Comfort Tiffany. St. Saviour’s Church contains 43 memorial windows by British, German, French and American artists. These span more than a century of glass design and commemorate beloved members of the church and the Bar Harbor community. Photo Club Members had time to take pictures around the grounds during our visit.
Jennifer Steen Booher gave a presentation that covers her techniques and equipment when photographing stained glass windows. Jennifer is a Photo Club Member and Bar Harbor artist who has mastered several different creative genres, including still-life photography, cyanotype and drawings. Jennifer is working on a book about the stained glass on MDI and has a lot of her research to share with us. She has been a resident artist with Acadia National Park since 2015 and an artist-in-residence with the MDI Historical Society since 2018.
Thanks to Nancy Jones for pulling this opportunity together.
